Im Oktober 1927 findet in Brüssel die fünfte Ausgabe der sogenannten Solvay-Konferenzen statt. Hier treffen sich die weltweit führenden Physiker, darunter Niels Bohr und Albert Einstein, um über die neue Quantenmechanik zu diskutieren. Der britische Auswärtige Dienst vermutet, dass die deutsche NSDAP ein Attentat auf die beiden prominenten Wissenschaftler plant, da sie davon überzeugt sind, daß die beiden in Zukunft eine wichtige Rolle spielen werden. Der MI6 schickt zwei Agenten, William Hamilton und Andrew Aspinall, nach Brüssel, um das Attentat abzuwenden, und ihre Hauptaufgabe besteht darin, den Deutschen zu überwachen, der das Attentat ausführen soll. Wie Einstein und Bohr werden Hamilton und Aspinall Freunde, obwohl sie nicht dieselbe Weltanschauung teilen. Andrew glaubt, dass jedes Ereignis von vorherbestimmten Umständen bestimmt wird, während William umgekehrt eine Vorliebe für Zufälle hat. Dies spiegelt sich sowohl in ihren Aufklärungsmethoden als auch in ihren unterschiedlichen Vorlieben für belgische Pommes Frites wider.

In October 1927, the fifth edition of the Solvay Conferences takes place in Brussels. The world’s leading physicists, including Niels Bohr and Albert Einstein, gather to discuss the new field of quantum mechanics. The British Foreign Service suspects that the German NSDAP is planning an assassination attempt on these two prominent scientists, as they believe that both will play a crucial role in the future. MI6 sends two agents, William Hamilton and Andrew Aspinall, to Brussels to prevent the assassination, and their main task is to monitor the German individual assigned to carry out the attack. Similar to Einstein and Bohr, Hamilton and Aspinall become friends despite not sharing the same worldview. Andrew believes that every event is determined by predetermined circumstances, while William, on the contrary, has a preference for coincidences. This is reflected in their methods of investigation as well as their different preferences for Belgian fries.
